Demographics

Definition:
Demographics are measurable characteristics of media consumers such as age, gender, race, education and income level. The characteristics and statistical information that distinguish a group of people.

The Demographics for my magazine:
The social class that I am targeting my magazine at is bands D and E. Band D is for manual workers either semi-skilled or unskilled, and band E is unemployed, students, pensioners or casual workers.

To adhere to my audience I wont put too much information in and include more images as people of these two bands are more likely to enjoy visuals instead of too much information. Also the price of the magazine will be £2.50 as people of these Bands are probably not going to want to spend £3 or above on a magazine therefore the number of pages will be lower than more expensive magazines as the publishing of multiple pages increases price. There are existing music magazines such as 'Q' which costs near to £4 however this we know is for the higher social classes with the number of pages it has, the amount of writing and the lack of pictures and interesting ads for the lower social classes. However the magazine kerrang is a lower price at just £2.20 as this has a lot less pages more pictures and includes prizes which will appeal to the audience it is aimed at.

Free gifts and prizes are important in these types of magazines as people in the lower social classes are able to get things for free such as concert tickets which they may not actually be able to afford.

The social class table with help which choosing a target audience and feature stories as you it helps in order to know what and how much information to include. Also it leads you to conclusion on what type of images they will like and how many to include in feature stories etc.
